Way back in December 2011, Illigan City was badly hit by Typhoon Sendong which leaves most areas devastated. Houses, farms, including their schools.
We all believe that education is a right for every person. In any status, poor or rich, genius or not. Since most schools were damaged by Typhoon Sendong, FILA and Athlethes in Action collaborated in partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation and iCare Foundation also with other sponsors (please see poster) to an Advocacy Run to raise funds for the rehabilitation of schools in Iligan City. “There has always been a lack of classrooms all over the country, and this situation worsened after Typhoon Sendong. Through the help of our partners, we hope to build more classrooms in Iligan City.”‘ said Jose Andres, National Director for Athletes in Action(AIA) Philippines.
The run will be held at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Assembly of participants is at 4am as gun start at 5am.
15,000 runners signed up for this advocacy run, and the Schools Run for School Rooms marathon will be gathering student-runners from major college and universities to participate and bring hope to Iligan City giving them classrooms suitable for learning. To date, 13 universities and colleges have shown their interest and participation for the said advocacy run , this include UP Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, Far Eastern University, University of the East, Jose Rial University, National University, San Beda College, San Sebastian College–Recolectos, AMA University, and University of Makati.
