For the past years, Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances, has been accepting donations of clothes may it be used or unused for our fellow kababayans who are badly affected and devastated by numerous typhoons. Donated clothes were sorted out, laundered and sent out to those in need. But of course not all donated clothes are wearable, this gave Electrolux an idea so that these clothes will not put to waste.
In line with Electrolux’s latest campaign, the Delightful-E Simple campaign, Electrolux came up with a project together with Gawad Kalinga’s Trese Community in Payatas Quezon City where these unusable clothes will be recycled and turned into quilts for children and newborn babies in orphanages and other communities. Another good thing about this project is that Gawad Kalinga’s community Trese will benefit too because this project will also support the livelihood program there.
“Electrolux believes that there must be dignity in the clothes that we donate. To make sure that every piece of clothing is in good condition, we will sort out the worn out, unwearable ones, then upcycle them into quilts with the help of Trese. With this partnership, we aim not only to give quilts to children and new born babies but also another source of livelihood for this Payatas community.” said Andrea Pionilla, Electrolux Marketing Manager. “
We were also toured around the Community Trese and seen other livelihood program(Silkscreen and Heat press t-shirt printing) that Gawad Kalinga has provided for the community in order for the people there to become productive and raise their self worth as individuals.
Of course I would not miss the chance of trying the Silkscreen tshirt printing. Yey! Perfect print. hihihi. Not bad for a first-timer.
This little fur baby catched all our attention. Meet “Kilay” The resident dog of Gawad Kalinga Community Trese Printing area. Very kind and friendly dog. 🙂
