Ten singing tsuperchamps from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao gathered in one stage last October 5 at Sta Lucia East Grand Mall and belted out their song pieces to show what they’ve got to become Shell Rimula’s “Ultimate Tsuperstar Champion”. The prize? a three- year supply of Shell Rimula and a cash prize of P500,000. Wow!
The Shell Rimula “Tsuperstar” is a project campaign that recognizes jeepney drivers from all over the Philppines who work day and night to provide a brighter future for their famies. At the same time, it is a culminating activity in support of the country’s jeepney drivers so they can showcase their diverse talents.
According to Recca Menchavez, Brand Manager for Shell Rimula, Shell Rimula has always been on the side of Fipino drivers everywhere. Whether they drive jeepneys or UV Express vans, Shell Rimula is their most-trusted engine partner. Recca expressed her gratitude for every driver who has worked tirelessly on the road with Shell Rimula as their chosen engine oil.
“We call them ‘tsuperstars’ because we believe that they are not only some of the most hardworking people in our sodiety, they are also the most underappreciated. We count on them to take us to work or to school, but we really don’t get to thank them enough,” said Recca.
“This event isn’t simply a competition of who’s the best in talent, this is our way of honoring and showing support to our Filipino drivers for everything that they have done for us,” she stressed. “They also deserve to take some time off and enjoy,” she added.
Special awards like “Ka-Joda’s Choice Award” which came with a P10,000 cash prize, and the “People’s Choice Award” were given to some tsuperstar finalists. And adding to the whole fun, Shell Rimula gave away raffle prizes and prepared exciting games for the audience.
Also present during the event was Shell Rimula’s ambassador Coco Martin who gave the audience and grand finalists a special performance accomparied by fellow Ang Probinsyano actors, rappers Smugglaz and Basslyo.
Coco admits that he has a heart for jeepney drivers because he himself came from a family of the same profession. His grandfather made a living driving a jeepney and was able to provide for his family. Coco’s father continued this particular family legacy and provided for the family by driving a jeepney as well. Coco even recalls that during his earlier years in showbiz, he invested in buying some jeepneys for additional income.
